19 of the Russian's 21 titles have been won on hard surfaces

A comeback Daniil Medvedev claimed his maiden championship for nearly 30 months with a win over opponent Moutet in the competition title decider.

The Russian, a former world number one, has endured a challenging year, achieving just one match at the big events and undergoing a setback at the New York tournament.

The player's inconsistency on the professional circuit - and issues with his serve in particular - caused him dropping out of the top ten and eventually parting ways with long-time coach Gilles Cervara.

Now collaborating with Johansson and his other coach, he has steadily improved in the past month - peaking in a tightly fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 win over challenger Moutet.

It is Medvedev's maiden trophy after the Rome competition and first on a hardcourt since March of 2023.

The win also indicates the Russian has achieved 21 victories at twenty-one various competitions.

"It's the first time I have attended a tournament with my two daughters at once, so to get a trophy is really nice," said tennis professional Medvedev.

"This title is in honour of my younger daughter Victoria, because the initial championship I won when my first daughter Alisa was born was for her."

Medvedev, the past champion, had failed in his past six finals, comprising in Halle in the past months.

Medvedev's defensive play style and frequent outbursts on court had prompted some to wonder if his capacity to compete at the highest level was over.

However the 29-year-old has altered his approach in the past month, striving to approach the net and play positively, supported by an enhanced service.

Medvedev fought back from a deficit in the opening set against the tricky Moutet, securing four of the final five games to gain the advantage.

Both players swapped breaks in the second set before the Frenchman, bidding for his maiden professional title, seized the initiative to push for a third set.

Moutet rescued 4 early chances in a tight deciding set before the champion secured a break to that score to serve for the match.

Suitably, he secured victory with a point at the net, with Moutet unable to handle a return after a lengthy match.
