An individual who laced sweets with sedative and provided them to youngsters at a summer camp in Leicestershire has admitted sexual offenses against two young males who were between nine and ten.

Jon Ruben was taken into custody after eight minors and a grown-up fell ill at the facility in July.

The 76-year-old, from the Nottinghamshire area, confessed to a total of 17 charges when he was present at Leicester Crown Court on Friday.

Nevertheless, he disputed a single sexual charge he was charged with, which was concerning a nine-year-old boy.

The defendant was remanded in custody prior to a further hearing on late November.

'Sweet game'

The prosecutor, handling the case, outlined the criminal behavior to the legal proceedings.

She explained his targets were under-privileged children who were attending a summer program which he ran.

The defendant played a "sweet game" with the children, Mrs Prior said, in which he would go into the children's bedrooms when they were preparing to sleep and tell them to eat sweets "as quickly as they can".

She stated to the judge the man had played this game with the boys "over an extended period", and children had previously fallen ill the subsequent day.

She said the man had been capable of justifying this over a long period as the children being "overstimulated by activities", until his stepson had worries in summer 2025.

Mrs Prior KC stated further: "This year his stepson had suspicions about the activities, for good reason.

"They chose" to have a look in the man's possessions."

Mrs Prior KC said items including infant oil, Vaseline and syringes were found, and his stepson contacted the authorities about his suspicions.

She said Ruben went on to conduct the "candy game" with six youngsters that night - that Saturday - and they were everyone unwell the subsequent day.

"Authorities" had not gone out by that time," she added.

The regulatory agency, the police conduct office, had stated that it was investigating law enforcement's management of the events.

The legal representative stated the youngsters were struggling to walk due to their condition, so the family member notified the police again.

She said Ruben then conducted the "candy game" in a space of five children.
